Your account and content
Motive uses your account information to sign you in and show your profile. Challenges, check-ins, messages, and the content you upload are used to provide those features. Account-backed features communicate with Motive’s server.
Your display name, username, and the profile content you choose to share help other people recognize you.
Screen Time is your choice
Focus blocking and activity reports require authorization through Apple’s Screen Time frameworks on your iPhone. Motive uses this access to let you select apps and websites, apply your focus rules, and display supported activity metrics.
Screen Time access is separate from signing into Motive. You can review authorization in your iPhone’s settings. The browser version does not have iPhone Screen Time access.
The Mac app stores selected applications, local focus rules, PIN protection, session history, and optional app-activity totals on that Mac. Activity measurement requires your choice to enable it and can be stopped separately. Mac app-activity totals and iPhone private Screen Time reports are not uploaded as a combined device-usage history. Challenge focus completions and approval requests use your Motive account to provide shared challenges.
Photos, files, and motion
Choosing a profile picture, banner, or attachment lets Motive use the item you select for that purpose. Uploaded profile and group images are stored so they can be displayed in the app.
The app also uses phone motion for subtle artwork parallax and edge highlights. These effects are presentation features and respect reduced-motion settings.
This website
The marketing pages do not include advertising pixels or third-party analytics scripts. Fonts and artwork are hosted with the site. The separate web app uses browser storage for account and app functionality.
The hosting infrastructure processes network requests to serve pages. Following a TestFlight link takes you to Apple’s service, which has its own privacy information.
Account deletion and retention
In updated iPhone and Mac builds, choose Settings → Account → Delete account and type your account email to confirm. Deletion removes your account and associated personal content from the active service, including your messages, uploads, notes, check-ins, owned challenges, and groups and conversations you own. Other members’ shared content in those owned groups and conversations is also removed. Anonymous decision history can remain in groups owned by other people.
Account content is kept while your account remains active. Automatic and manual service backups expire within 30 days. A deleted account may therefore remain in an isolated backup until that backup expires; backups are not used as live account data. PocketBase service logs are retained for seven days. Current PocketBase log settings do not record IP addresses or authenticated account IDs.
Deletion clears local focus rules, saved PINs, and header images on the device initiating it. Other signed-in devices lose server access when they next connect. Copies saved or downloaded by other people are outside Motive’s storage. Contact support if you use an earlier build, cannot sign in, or need help with a device or deletion request.
Safety reports and blocking
Use Report on a profile, shared post, or chat message to send its reference, your selected reason, and any details you enter to Motive support. Reports are kept in a private moderator queue and are not visible to the reported person. Avoid including passwords or unrelated sensitive information.
Block person hides their profile and posts, removes mutual follows, and makes conversations containing both accounts unavailable. You can unblock them in Settings → Privacy. Blocking does not cancel shared challenge commitments. For safety help and community rules, visit Help & support or email [email protected].
Questions, access, or deletion requests
For questions about your information, or to request account or data assistance, contact [email protected]. Use the address associated with your account so we can help verify the request. Never send a password.
Motive is made by Current Creative LLC. As the beta develops, this guide will be updated to reflect the available features.
